When I was growing up, there were lots of bands with absurd names like this, often with some form of candy in the title. So, immediately, The Flying Electric Candy Stand gets extra points from me. This is a fun little EP, which is about what you'd expect to get if you crossed the Indie sound of today with the Bubblegum sound of my youth. Think Katy Perry meets The Brady Bunch meets Petty Booka meets The Kasenetz-Katz Singing Orchestral Circus. Or something like that. It's kinda nice to hear from a new band that doesn't take anything too seriously. Lead vocalist AmiBeth sounds a bit like Gwen Stefani on "Naughty List". The Christmas Lights in "Christmas Lights 1978" just might be the singer's house going up in flames. "Wisconsin" has the vintage sound the group seems to be striving for. "Christmas Beach Party", on the other hand, sounds a bit over-produced in comparison to the rest of the disc. You'll find song samples on CD Baby and the title cut streaming on the band's Facebook page. Overall, "But It's Christmas" sounds quirky and fun, and there should be a place in everyone's holiday collection for quirky and fun. Add in a few kazoos and they'd really have something.
